3、es cosmetic instructions translation from the perspective of skopostheorie. Based on skopostheorie, the paper analyzes Chinese translation of instructions for cosmetics and illustrates that instructions for cosmetics should be translated with skopostheories guidance. Besides, the validity of skopost

4、heories functions will be examined in the translation of cosmetics instructions.Theoretical significance:Skopostheorie, put forward by German functionalists Reiss, Vermeer and Nord, is based on the prerequisite that translation as a cross-culture communicative activity is purposeful. The core of thi

5、s theory is skopos any translation is decided by the purpose of translation. In short, the purpose of translation decides the means of translation (Reiss and Vermeer,1984:101). And the final goal of translation of cosmetic instructions is cross-culture communication.In Skopostheorie, to achieve the

6、purpose of translation, translator can employ either literal translation or completely rewrite the source text, or any other translation strategies. According to different focuses in translation, Nord sets forth two translation strategies: documentary translation and instrumental translation. Based

7、on analyzing some examples translation purpose, the two strategies will be used in translation of cosmetic instructions: equifunctional and foreignizing translation. Realistic significance:With Chinas entry to WTO and the rapid development of Chinese economy, plenty of foreign commodities flood into

8、 Chinese markets, among which there are foreign cosmetics. As a special kind of advertisement that bridge consumers and companies, cosmetic instructions play a crucial role. Correspondingly, the translation of cosmetic instructions has become a significant and urgent task. One of the most direct way

9、s is to show the potential customers the cosmetics instructions. However, due to the insufficient attention to cosmetic instructions translation at home and abroad, studies in the cosmetic instructions translation fall behind other pragmatic translation, such as tourist translation, advertisement tr

10、anslation and etc.Because a short guide tends to provide the consumers with the information that they always care most. Therefore, to some extent, the quality of a instruction reflects the quality of the product, and a quality translation will help attract more consumers. Unfortunately, today it is

11、estimated that the majority of women consumers more or less complain about the quality of translation of cosmetic instructions. This research adopts the Skopostheorie to discuss the translation of cosmetic instructions and tries to find out some suitable translation strategies or approaches.选题的研究现状(

Vermeer in the late 1970s. Later, Vermeer and his teachers Reiss wrote an essay Ordinary Translation Foundation, and expl

13、ained skopostheorie systematically. Skopostheorie bases on communicative behavior, text linguistics, text theory and the research achievement of reception theory. The term Skopos was from Greek, it means purpose and objective, Vermeer used this word to signify translation or the purpose of translati

14、on behavior. (Vermeer, 1978). Functionalist translation theory has gone through four stages: the first stage is Katharina Reiss functional translation theory. She believes that the equivalence of the target text and the source text sometimes is impossible to achieve, and have different functions in

15、the process of translation. Therefore, the translator should give priority to the translation function rather than the principle of equivalence. The second stage is the Hans. Vermeers skopostheorie .Based on behavior theory Vermeer created skopostheorie. The third stage is the Justa Holz Manttaris a

16、ction of translation theory. Manttari based on Vermeers theory to develop hers with the transmission of information to a variety of cross-cultural conversion, translation as a complex activity to achieve a specific purpose. The fourth stage is the Christiane Nord text analysis mode. Domestic Researc

17、h Skopostheorie has been translated into multinational languages and spread to several countries in the world in more than 30years since skopostheorie came into being.Since 1980s, skopostheorie disseminated in China, and played an important role on Chinese translation studies. According to incomplet

18、e statistics, from 1987 to 2006, there are more than 100 articles that referred to skopostheorie in all kinds of academic periodicals and papers of China, in which the core journals published approximately 37, the scope of the research covers the discipline construction in translation studies, conce

19、pts and standards of translation, translation strategies and methods, literary translation and nonliterary translation, and translation teaching. In 1987, Gui Qianyuan published an article Remember the Federal Republic of Germany Three Translators in Chinese Translation. It briefly described the Ver

20、meers new insights about translation. In 1995, Zhang Nanfengs idea be out of the dead end, and establish translation studies and Chen Xiaoweis a brief common on function theory, they made brief introduction and common on skopostheorie. After the two, the introduction related skopostheorie gradually

21、increased. Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press also introduced Vermeer and Reisss theoretical writings Translating As a Purposeful Activity: Functional Approaches Explained and Translation Criticism: The Potentials & Limitations, it has played a leading role in academia for understanding the c

22、onnotation and denotation of skopostheorie.Basic Theories The main school of translation theory in Germany - skopostheorie is the most influential translation theory in Germany. Skopostheorie bases on the Behaviorism theory and the Intercultural Communication, it believes that human beings have thei

23、r own purposes of doing activities. Translation, a complicated activity, is also a purposive practice for the communication of cross-culture and cross-language. The Skopostheorie points out translators do not focus on the equivalence of both source and target language texts, at the same time,both in

24、formation and function of source texts are not to be considered. Therefore, we need to produce the expected function in translated texts for the understanding of readers under their language and cultural environment. From the perspective of functionalists, translation is a kind of communication acti

25、vity which could be helpful communicating between cross-culture exchange. They claims that many participants would be involved in the translating process, including the author of original text, translator, receptors, and readers etc. According to the main idea of original text,specific purpose and a

26、ccurate strategies, the translator must try to get the translation standardized. Translator, as the first reader, his capabilities can decide the quality of translation. According to the main idea of original text, skopostheorie stresses on using translators subjective initiative to adopt different
