38、EPROCESS PHASESMILESTONESFigure 1.New Product Development ProcessThere are basically seven milestones in the release of any new product within ADI starting with thedesign initiation and ending with the release of the product.The process by which each of thesemilestones is met is divided into five di
39、stinct phases:1.Feasibility2.Implementation3.Wafer Fabrication4.Packaging and Validation5.ReleaseIf any step in the process is deemed not to be applicable to the development of a new product,thedevelopment team is responsible for documenting the reasons.These phases are outlined in Figure 1.Step one
40、 is the development of a PSD0.This document is a review of 12 critical factors highlighting thestrengths and weaknesses of the project.The development team uses it to create a high-quality PSD1.FeasibilityThe feasibility study begins with a product definition that can come from any number of sources
41、,suchas marketing,engineering,or directly from customers.Once agreement has been reached on productdefinition and feasibility,the product lines then allocate the generic model number in accordance withcorporate policy.An upper management team sponsor is appointed and a design team is formed consisti
42、ngof but not limited to:Design,CAD,Manufacturing,Test,Quality,and Reliability.During the feasibilityphase,design engineers assess how to meet market requirements,and various architectures and packageoptions are explored.The manufacturing process is selected,die size estimates are made,and timeframes
43、 are established for development and release.This work allows the product start document(PSD1)to be completed.ADI Reliability Handbook5During this stage various resources are allocated to the project and decisions made.An in-deptharchitecture review is conducted among the project designers and other
44、 design engineers outside theproject group to secure a balanced perspective on the proposed architecture.The product team alsoconvenes during this period to decide on the characterization plan for the product and to allocateresponsibilities.The designer will supply a high-level product simulation to
45、 enable the test engineer togain a good understanding of how the part will perform and to investigate Design for Test(DFT)strategies.Prior to completing the product start document,the design engineer will discuss with the relevantassembly engineer any issues related to assembly.CAD requirements are
46、also reviewed and resourcesallocated at this time.Once this step is completed,the PSD1 is signed off.The PSD1 is a controlleddocument and signifies the formal start of the project.The PSD outlines the roles and responsibilities ofthe team sponsor,leader,and members.In completing the PSD,the new prod
47、uct release team must gen-erate a schedule for development and release of the product outlining the resources required.Thetest feasibility phase begins once the assigned test engineer receives a controlled copy of the data sheet.During this phase the test engineer considers the technical risks invol
48、ved and where possible effort canbe made to eliminate these risks.The test engineer provides DFT inputs to the design engineer to givethe maximum coverage at the probe and final test stages.ImplementationPrior to commencing a detailed design,the development team generates a list of simulations plann
49、edduring the design phase.These simulations become the basis of the design review and at this point adetailed design is completed and a set of schematics produced.The design engineer calls a design reviewmeeting in which the engineer shows that the desired product performance can be achieved by prov
50、id-ing simulation data.If no changes are required,the design proceeds while the characterization plansare reviewed and updated as needed.The layout now begins in accordance with the specified designrules,and additional simulations are done to achieve full-chip simulation.Also during this phase,burn-
